“WHEN WILL YOU MARRY” BY PAUL GAUGUIN

Who?

Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin was a French painter and Post-Impressionist artist born in 1848, in Paris. Unappreciated until after his death in 1903, Gauguin is now recognized for his experimental use of colour and synthetic style. He is also well known for his relationship with Vincent and Theo van Gogh.

What is “When will you Marry ?”

“When Will You Marry?” is an oil painting from 1892. Gauguin travelled to Tahiti to find an Edenic paradise where he could create pure ‘primitive art’. The painting captures two traditionally dressed young women. The front and middle ground are built up in areas of green, yellow and blue. This painting was sold privately in 2015 for close to 210 million dollars.
