Ferdinand Victor Eugène Delacroix was a French romantic artist born in 1798 in France and died in 1863 in France. Inspired by the art of Rubens and painters of the Venetian Renaissance. His style emphasises on colour and movement rather than clarity of outline. Delacroix's paintings are primarily characterised by its captivating blend of dramatic and romantic themes.

What is “Liberty Leading the People” about?

Liberty Leading the People, an oil on canvas masterpiece, depicts the July Revolution of 1830 in France. In this painting a woman adorned with a Phrygian cap, symbolizing Liberty leads a group of people over a barricade and bodies of the fallen, whilst holding the flag of the French Revolution. The painting "Liberty Leading the People" is currently exhibited at the ‘Musée du Louvre’ in Paris.
